On hienoa huomata, että rakastamani työ tuottaa tulosta ja että hääkuvani rankkautuvat kärkisijoille myös kansainvälisen tarkastelun alla. Oheinen hääkuvani palkittiin AG|WPJA:n vuoden 2013 päätöskisassa. Viime vuoden aikana hääkuviani palkittiin useita kertoja sekä WPJA:n että AG|WPJA:n kilpailuissa. Vuoden 2013 korkein sijoitukseni oli kolmas sija tällä kuvalla. Tästä on mahtava lähteä kohti vuoden 2014 hääsesonkia ja tiedossa onkin mielenkiintoisia häitä ympäri Suomen.
Viisi edellistä kesääni on kulunut lähes kokonaan hääkuvausten merkeissä. Tänä vuonna olen tietoisesti vähentänyt häiden määrää ja päättänyt jättää enemmän aikaa perheelle ja itselleni. Kamerat eivät kuitenkaan jää makaamaan kaappiin, vaan luvassa on matkustelua ja paljon kuvailua omaksi huvikseni. Kuitenkin aikanaan kaikki lähti liikenteeseen intohimostani luontokuvaukseen. Välillä on hyvä hiljentää tahtia, palata juurilleen ja katsoa taakseen, mitä on saavuttanut, sekä pohtia tulevaa.
Tällä hetkellä valokuvausalalle virtaa vuosittain valtava määrä tulokkaita. Osa jää, mutta suuri osa katoaa alkuhuuman haihduttua. Tiettyjen trendien, kuten skandinaavisen minimalismin ja leikattujen sävyjen, räjähdysmäinen kasvu on ollut merkillepantavaa hääkuvausrintamalla. Kaiken tämän keskellä haluan pysähtyä miettimään omaa tekemistäni. Olen tullut siihen tulokseen, että trendien perässä juokseminen on turhaa eikä auta oman tyylin löytämisessä. Lopulta lähes kaiken voi kopioida ja myydä hieman halvemmalla. Sen sijaan kokemusta ja tapaa, jolla katsot häitä kameran läpi, ei pysty kopioimaan. Tapahtuipa häärintamalla mitä tahansa, niin olen päättänyt jatkaa rakastamani asian tekemistä. Olen syvästi kiitollinen kaikille asiakkailleni, jotka ovat luottaneet hääpäivänsä kuvaamisen käsiini vuosien saatossa. En tulevaisuudessakaan tule ottamaan yhtään hääkuvaa palkintojen kiilto silmissäni vaan keskityn tekemään laadukasta valokuvausta asiakkailleni. Jos tämä työ menestyy myös kilpailuissa, niin se on mahtava lisä tyytyväisen asiakkaan rinnalla.

It is wonderful to notice, that the job I love, pays off and that my wedding photos are ranked among the top in the world wide wedding industry. My photo above was awarded in AG|WPJA's year 2013 final contest. During the last year several of my wedding photos were awarded in both WPJA's and AG|WPJA's wedding photography contests. My highest placing photo was this on 3rd position. From here it is good to move towards this year's wedding season and there are several interesting weddings ahead around the Finland.
Last five summers I have spent more or less by photographing weddings. This year I decided to change that and give little more time to my family and to myself. I won't forget my cameras as there's going to be lot of traveling and shooting for my own amusement. After all this all started from my passion to landscape photography. Once in a while it is good to slow down, get back to one's roots and look behind what you've accomplished and think about the future.
At the moment there is a constant flood of newcomers into the wedding photography business. Some of them stay, but most disappear after a while. You can't but notice certain trends like "scandinavian minimalism and muted blacks" filling the space. In the middle of all this I just want to stop and think for a while. I have come to a conclusion that it is pointless to run after every new trend and it won't help you in the long run to find your own style. In the end everything can be copied and sold for little less. What one cannot copy is your years of experience, commitment and the way you see the wedding/world through your view finder. What ever happens in the wedding photography industry I have decided to continue to do what I love. I am deeply thankful to all my clients who have trusted me to save their important day during the last six years. I won't take a single wedding photo just the prize in my mind but I focus on delivering high quality wedding photography to all my clients. If these photos end up being awarded in competitions I take that as a great compliment but in the end the happy client is my ultimate prize.
